While I know this community has not been the most active, we do from time to time get spammers who love to post porn in this community or some other derisive trolling activity. So in order to avoid any further incidents, all posts will now be moderated. I will be checking the community on a daily basis so all appropriate posts will still be posted in a timely manner.

Hey all. I posted a few chapters from my Airborn fic 'Freefall' here a while back, but then I kind of stopped. I'm still writing it, but I never got much of a response here, so I'm posting more chapters over at FF.net

http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4185196/1/Freefall

There's the address, for all who want to read a Matt/Kate fic. There are a lot of fans over there, which is great!! Just a few more chapters and then it's done, but I plan on writing more.

Thanks!!

Here it is, via Amazon.ca. I haven't found another image from Amazon.com or Chapters.ca. I believe it's by the same artist as before but I can't really tell until I get a closer look.

The cover...only two more months or so.Collapse )

April 15th, 2008

I had actually thought it would have taken longer before I had to post this, but that doesn't mean the news was unwelcomed:
Kenneth Oppel has just completed work on his latest novel, STARCLIMBER, a sequel to Airborn and Skybreaker. Matt Cruse and Kate de Vries go higher than ever when they take part in the very first expedition to outer space -- and the journey turns out to be even more thrilling, perilous, and deadly, than imagined. Starclimber will be published in Canada this September; in the United States in December; and in the UK May 2009. (April 11, 2008)Taken from the Kenneth Oppel website.
So now it's only a matter of a few months to a year depending on where you're living to get the book. Currently Amazon.ca only has the French listing for Starclimber, so the English one should be up soon, followed by other sites.

EDIT: Amazon.ca has Starclimber available to order: link for those who wish to order from Canada.

Title: Freefall - Chapter 1
Words: 2,692

Rating: PG-13 (so far - rating will go up in later chapters)

Author’s Notes: So...it finally happened. I've been dreaming of writing a Matt/Kate fic for probably a year, so here it is! I'm writing like CRAZY. Like I've never written before, actually! There are many chapters to come.

This is a fic of what I think the third book (?) might turn out like. Or how I'd like it to!

With her hands gesturing, her eyes alight and her lips red from kissing him, he thought she was the most beautiful thing he had ever seen, airships included.

October 13th, 2007

Kenneth Oppel recently visited my town and I have a bit of news concerning the third book as well as a couple other tidbits. It's going to be called Starclimber and deals with the first voyage to space and Kate de Vries will be more outrageous than she was in the previous two books.

As for the other tidbits, concerning the series:

What went wrong if the movie was made now.Collapse )

Also, did anyone know that our lovely Kate de Vries was based on Mrs. Oppel? And that Skybreaker is Mr. Oppel's favourite book of the ones he's written? Just a couple little facts that I thought might be of interest to everyone!

Airborn Movie

I admit that I haven't been keeping this community up as well as I would like to but there hasn't been much to report on within the last few months till now. I've updated our profile a little as well as the layout for comm more in tune to what we're about. If you have any suggestions, feel free to pitch them in. I'm no genius graphic designer so you'll probably come up with something better than what I've got up now.

Anyway, seeing as how there are only seven of us in this comm, I'm sure we can hopefully start up some discussion about this series.

The movie was previously stated to be out in 2008 though this was not an absolute statement but due to the script as reported:
During the Ontario Library Association Conference on Jan 30-Feb 2 2007, Oppel stated the rights for movie production had run out. The company only had a two year window and the script that he had to approve was 'disappointing' by his standards.
I haven't participated or joined many groups for this particular topic of a book about to be turned into a movie before so I have no idea if there's a format for this kind of discussion or not.

According to Wiki and IMDB, it was going directed by Stephen Sommers with Liam Aiken starring as Matt Cruse. Emma Watson was last rumoured to be his co-star in the role of Kate de Vries.

Now considering we're in an age where Hollywood loves to try to adapt popular books to movies, what would you expect for the movie? What standards must be kept? We also know that unless Airborn gains the popularity of Lord of the Rings, there's no way that this movie could be anymore than two hours (and even if it is, it won't be by much), which is the usual length for a movie nowadays. The only similiar movie that I can think of Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow or The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, in terms of special effects for the airships.

Keeping those in mind, which scenes do you think could be exempt from the making if they ever got around to it? What scenes would you not be happy if they were cut?

Book to movie, lost in translation.Collapse )

Please give us your thoughts on the matter!
